From junk closet to organized

November 2nd, 2015

We have a closet in our Canyon View House that is used for media equipment, but its big enough for lots of storage. Over the last 18 months its become a bit of a catch-all, and about a year ago I bought this drawer unit to organize it.  For the last 12 months most of the drawers have been empty and I never got around to actually organizing them even though more and more stuff got put into the closet. We call this closet the “room of requirement” and my goal has been to make this room really work for us storing all of our office supplies and small items.

closet-organizationMr. Project bought me this Epson label maker and it was just the kick in the pants that I needed to start filling up the drawers and sorting all the items in the closet (along with purging a lot of old stuff that we haven’t looked at in 18 months).

I love my label printer so much. I especially love that it makes me want to put things into bins and label them endlessly. I keep looking around my house to find more things to put in bins!

I just ordered another drawer unit and hopefully I’ll get all the little items in my house all rounded up and segmented soon!

Dream Tree Challenge – White Christmas Tree 2015

November 1st, 2015

My favorite part of being a Michaels Maker last year was designing a tree for the Dream Tree Challenge 2014. So I was so excited when a new tree appeared on my front porch a few weeks ago.

I wanted to create a tree that felt light and airy this year and I was inspired by the Christmas Mantel I created for my house last year and wanted to keep it simple and all white.

So I went shopping at Michaels and found so many lovely white ornaments to get me started.

One fun thing I did this year was add globe lights to my tree. This is the first year I’ve seen them available at Michaels and they are super affordable compared to buying them at Pottery Barn. I love how they light up the tree and brighten the room up at night. theprojectgirl-white-christmas-tree-1

The pom pom garlands are the same ones that I used on my Christmas mantel last year, they are in the kids craft section. I used 14 of them on my tree.

The geometric ornaments added the perfect touch of modern. I created them with lollipop sticks from the candy making section of Michaels – and a lot of hot glue!

My favorite part of decorating for Christmas is the magical feel at night when all the lights are out and the christmas tree lights are glowing softly. theprojectgirl-white-christmas-tree-15Now that Halloween is over I can get excited about all the fun parts of Christmas!
