To create this fall chalkboard art, you’ll need to find or create a chalkboard. You can use Chalkboard paint to do this, or find an existing chalkboard.

You’ll also need chalk. I use regular chalk, but you could also use a chalk marker, though the effect isn’t quite the same.

With regular chalk, I sharpen my sticks with a utility knife.

Then I print out my template, cut to size. (design template available as a free download at the end of this post).

To transfer the design to your chalkboard, turn over the template to the blank side, and rub the side of a piece of chalk all over the paper. Once the paper is all chalked turn it over and place it where you want it on your chalk board. Then you’ll need to use some sort of stylus – a pencil, embossing tool, ball-point pen etc. to trace over the word art.

When your finished, your chalkboard should look something like this:

Use your sharpened chalk to fill in the traced areas and recreate the word art on your chalkboard.  Here is what my final chalkboard looks like:

If you want to keep your chalk art from erasing, you can use a fixative to protect the chalk. Do not do this step if you want to re-use the chalkboard later.

And here you can see my chalkboard with the rest of my fall decor. Check out my Fall Buffet Decor post and my Hydrangea Topiary post to see the rest of the projects!
